Advanced Scrambling Course 2 days
Previous experience: Good amounts of mountain walking and grade 1-2 scrambles
Scrambling is a great way to experience the sensation of physically climbing to the top of a mountain. The effort is greater than mountain walking and new skills such as moving over rocky ground using your hands, balance and a good head for heights will need to be acquired. It is an activity which most mountain walkers end up progressing into.
Scrambles are graded from 1 for a straightforward walk with small sections to climb, to 3, which is consistent climbing with use of a rope - this is bordering on rock climbing, but with less equipment and simplified techniques for speed.
Advanced scrambling is an ideal course for those who have some grade 2 scrambling experience and would now like to start Grade 3 scrambles. Ideally you should have some rope work experience in either rock climbing or completed a Intermediate Scrambling Course.
The aim of the course is to give you experience of grade 3 scrambling and also look at how we safeguard ourselves on these steep and often exposed scrambles. Grade 3 scrambles are bordering on rock climbing and similar techniques will be applied.
The main aim of the course is to cover as much scrambling ground as possible so you can learn in a realistic environment.
